In modern climate control systems, Air Handling Unit (AHU) components are key elements for effective air management. These components play a crucial role in ensuring both comfort and energy efficiency by controlling air flow and maintaining temperature and humidity balance. This page provides a detailed overview of the common features and components of the Air Handling Units we manufacture.

AHUs are complex systems where various components work together seamlessly. Each component is specially designed to enhance air quality and system performance. From filters to fans and heat exchangers, every component contributes to the overall efficiency of the system.

Framework

The cabinet frame is made from specially shaped galvanized steel profiles and plastic brackets designed specifically for these profiles. The interior surfaces are completely sealed to reduce pressure loss and prevent the build-up of contaminants inside the air handling unit.

Panel

The panels that make up the body have double layers. The inside surface is made of PVC-coated or electrostatically painted galvanized sheets. To achieve heat and sound insulation, either rock wool plates are inserted between the layers or polyurethane is injected. Special equipment is used to mix and inject two-component polyurethane between the layers.

Galvanized sheets are connected using newly designed K-profiles. Besides serving as fixed body panels, these can also function as service doors.

Service doors are equipped with hinges and handles, with the number ranging from 2 to 4 depending on the unit’s height.

For safety, the units have an emergency stop button and an additional safety switch that stops operation if the maintenance lid is open.

Sealing

Special gaskets prevent air leakage at the seams where the framework meets the body panels. These gaskets handle the pressure difference and ensure a tight seal.

Fans

In ventilator and aspirator cells, different components are used based on the pressure loss in the ventilation system. For systems with low to medium pressure loss (100-700 Pa), we use backward-curved radial fans. These fans are statically and dynamically balanced, highly efficient, quiet, and have double suction. The electric motors are IP 54 protected, with F insulation class, and operate at 380 V and 50 Hz. They are selected based on the power drawn by the fan shaft, with an added safety margin.

Radial fans and electric motors are mounted on the same chassis. Rubber or spring insulators are placed on the carrier slides to prevent vibration transmission to the cell. The fan cell outlet and the radial fan are connected using a sealed, rubber-flanged flexible connection.

Air Dampers

The air dampers in the air handling units are made from special self-sealing aluminum flaps, featuring a concealed plastic gear mechanism and bearing components.

These dampers allow for precise air flow adjustment from 0 to 100%. They are designed based on the air flow rate and unit dimensions to minimize air leakage at the edges. Dampers can be controlled either manually or by a servo motor, depending on the option chosen.

Heater and Cooler Exchangers

Heater and cooler exchangers can be made with either copper pipes and aluminum fins or steel pipes and steel fins, depending on their intended use and the type of fluid. After production, all exchangers undergo a pressurized hydrostatic test.

They are mounted on studs to allow for easy access and maintenance. Cooler exchangers come with stainless steel trays or specially designed PVC droplet catchers to handle condensing water.

Electric heaters are made with steel pipes and steel fins, and they can include an optional safety thermostat.

Filters

Various types of filters are used in air handling units based on specific requirements. According to EN ISO 16890 standards:

  • Class (G3, G4) ISO Coarse pre-filters are used to capture coarse dust particles. They are arranged in a V-formation to minimize air velocity across the filter.
  • Class (M5, M6, F7, and F9) ISO ePM1-2.5-10 synthetic bag filters are highly efficient and are installed as cartridges for easy installation and removal.

The filter cartridges feature a specially designed galvanized sheet frame with rubber gaskets. The filter cell structure is designed to prevent unwanted air leakage and meets international dimensions and optimal air speed standards. Each filter cell includes a lid for easy replacement and cleaning. Optional differential pressure indicators can be added to monitor filter clogging.

Heat Recovery Unit

The diagonal flow heat recovery unit is made from aluminum plates. Thanks to its high heat transfer coefficient and large surface area, the unit effectively transfers heat between the incoming fresh air and the outgoing exhaust air. The optimal solution for each system is determined by considering both summer and winter design temperatures as well as operational factors.

Steam Humidifiers

Steam humidifiers consist of the following components:

  • Fittings for steam distributors: These come in various sizes and quantities based on capacity and are installed in cabinets made from standard panels.
  • Hard PVC monitoring glass: Used for observing the operation.
  • PVC and stainless steel droplet catchers: These prevent water drift.

Silencers

Silencers are designed to absorb noise and reduce it to the desired level. They come in compartments made of a galvanized frame with glass wool filling, covered by glass fabric.

  • Body: Flanged galvanized sheet or optional stainless steel.
  • Chamber: Filled with glass wool and covered with glass fabric.
  • Dimensions: Custom sizes available.
  • Isolation: Option for rock wool insulation.
  • Reinforcement: Used in large duct cross-sections for added strength and reduced resonance.
  • Material: Class A2 non-combustive fill material that meets DIN 1402 standards.
